Mr. William Kenneth Schaefer, aged 84, of Grand Rapids. Bill was born on June 26, 1922 to William and Mayme (Kampfschulte) Schaefer and was a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1940. He is preceded in death by sister, Lucille; brothers, Robert, Edward and Arthur; son-in-law, Ray Kolenda. He is survived by his loving wife, Marian (the recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary); his children, Linda (John) Brouhard, Mary Cinder, Sue (Tom) Miller, Nancy Kolenda, Anne Schaefer, Jane (Nick) Wybenga, William D. (Deborah) Schaefer, along with 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret and Claire Schaefer, Beulah Doelder, Floyd and Gerri Wyma, Gordon Wyma, Russel and Doris Wyma and many nieces and nephews. Bill worked in the magazine and book distribution business for 47 years working as Manager of the American News Company, Shaw News Company and Western Michigan News Company. Upon retirement, he found ministry working for God's Kitchen delivering Meals-On-wheels several days a week. Also, every Sunday morning after Church was spent delivering Meals-At-Home out of Blodgett Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Wing of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1584, The American Legion Post 384 and Knights of Columbus. Bill was a devoted family man, beloved by his children and grandchildren for his ready wit and winning ways. Visitation at Arsulowicz Brothers, West Chapel on Sunday October 15, 2006 at 3 to 7 p.m. with the rosary prayed at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday October 16, 2006 at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., Monsignor Leo R. Rosloniec presiding. He will repose in church one hour prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice or St. James Catholic Church.
