William Edwin Hoag, aged 84, of Grand Rapids Township, died Thursday morning, April 13, 2006 at Breton Manor. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Simons); daughters, Cindy (David) Sebald, Gina Hoag; step-daughter, Bonnie Simons; sister, Mary Ann Olson; granddaughter, Elizabeth Sebald; step-grandchildren, Lisa, Dennis and David Simons; brother and sister-in-law, Burt and Vera Jane and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen (Cronkright); son, Gregory Hoag; and stepson, Michael Simons. He played football and graduated from South High School in 1941. He was a B-24 pilot stationed in Italy, and flew 15 missions during World War II. He was a loyal employee of Michigan Bell for forty years. His grandparents settled in Grand Rapids in 1867, and he had an apple orchard for many years. He was a member of Second Congregational Church for 50 years, a member of Visionaires Couples Club, a "friend" of Chocolate with Dorothy and Friends at Gilda's Club for years. His family is very appreciative of his excellent care by nurses and staff of Breton Manor and years of care by Dr. Randall Green also. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 19th at Second Congregational Church, 525 Cheshire Drive, NE at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland Home, Heritage Trust Fund of Second Congregational Church or Gilda's Club. O'Brien Eggebeen Gerst
