Life Story / Obituary
Thomas Albert VanDyken, age 78, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on November 16, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. Tom was born January 14, 1946 in Grand Rapids to the late Frederick VanDyken and Evelyn (Falska) VanDyken. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Donald Zeagler; stepmother, Joann VanDyken; and in-laws, Stan Sr, and Helen Prusinowski. Tom will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (Prusinowski) VanDyken; sisters, Susan Zeagler and Faye VanDyken; cousin, Cherie Harrison-Cizuskas; in-laws, Larry and Sally Prusinowski, Cec and Bob Morris; Stan Jr. and Judy Prusinowski, Greg and Joan Prusinowski, Jeanette and John Boggiano; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He is also survived by his half-siblings, Fred and Judy VanDyken, Karen and Ray Chesbro, Tim and Cindy VanDyken, and June VanDyken. Tom retired from Sackner Products in skilled trades after 30 plus years. His love was for the outdoors, fishing, hunting and golfing. Tom’s creative talents were found in oil and acrylic painting and working with stained glass. A funeral Service will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 at 3:30 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Van-Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Ave NE. Friends and family will visit at the funeral home beginning at 2:30 PM. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to express thanks to the following for their tender care of Tom: Valley View Center, Oaks of Belmont, Corewell Health Cancer Center, Urology, Palliative Hospice and Harmony Cares.
