Vanden Toorn – Mr. Thomas L VandenToorn, age 74 of Grand Rapids, passed away May 14, 2021. He was born in Rockford, Michigan to Dirk and Corrine (Blackport) VandenToorn on June 7, 1946 and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Wilma (Moerdyk) VandenToorn, whom he married on October 3, 1969. Also surviving are their children Tammy & Jim Westrate, Jon & Andrea VandenToorn, Mike & Melissa VandenToorn, Marsha & Eric Sporte, Diane & Tom VanderPloeg, Joe & Leah VandenToorn, and Sarah & Amos Kamp; 34 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters Arlene Nieuwenhuis, Ruth Wilkerson, Betty VanDyke; brother Dirk & Lori VandenToorn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Tom & Meta Moerdyk, Ruth & Jim Beeke, Sue & Henry DeVries, Bill & Cheryl Moerdyk; and many nieces and nephews. Tom’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at 11 AM at First Netherlands Reformed Congregation, 1261 Beckwith Ave NE. Family and friends are invited to visit with Tom’s family at the church on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and on Wednesday beginning at 10 AM. For those who wish, memorial contributions to First Netherlands Reformed Congregation are appreciated. His family wishes to thank the caring staff at Metro Health in the ABC Unit.
