Sandra Ann Hizney-Goldman was a feisty lady with a fighting attitude. She dearly loved her family, friends and animals of all kinds and cherished them with all her heart. Sandy will be greatly missed, yet frequently remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Sandra Ann Hizney and her twin sister, Cindy, were born on August 23, 1961, to proud parents, Robert and Patricia (Meldrum) Hizney in Pontiac, Michigan, the fifth of their seven children. She grew up in Walled Lake, Michigan, where she attended Walled Lake Elementary and High School and worked at Sears for 7 years after graduating. During this time, Sandy met Scott Goldman while visiting some friends at Michigan State University and they began dating. The couple soon fell in love and was happily married in a private ceremony on December 3, 1982, in Livonia, Michigan.

Sandy was a wonderful cook of traditional Polish delicacies, a skill she learned under her grandmother's tutelage. Some of her specialties included Kielbasa, Golumbki, Kapusta and Pierogis, though she also liked to indulge in some ribs too. Sandy had a real green thumb when it came to her garden and she grew everything under the sun, canning much of her bounty in the fall. Sandy was also an avid bowler and bowled every Tuesday morning at Paragon Bowling Lanes. One of Sandy's most defining traits was her big heart for animals. She opened her home to many dogs and cats, including her dogs: BJ, Ben, Freckles and Remington, and her cats: Alphons, Maggie, Shamie, Patches, Callie, Max and Mo. Sandy's favorite, though, was her beloved Springer Spaniel, Jenny, who was a constant companion to her throughout her illness. With such a love for animals, it was only natural that Sandy volunteered much of her time at the Ionia County Humane Society.

From the age of 7, Sandy has struggled with a chronic blood disease, which contributed to many of her medical complications in the last 5 years. Sandy was admitted to Metro Health on Monday, September 14, because of her illness, and she passed away suddenly a week later.

Sandra Ann Hizney-Goldman, aged 44, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2005, at Metro Health Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Patricia Hizney, and her brothers, Andrew Hizney and Randolph Hizney. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Scott Goldman; her twin sister, Cindy (Gerald) Proctor; her brothers and sisters, Lynn Frye, Christine (David) Chiapetto, Karen (Aaron) Ruple; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

According to Sandy 's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral home services or visitation. A scholarship has been set up in her name to be given to a youth bowler through the Young American Bowling Assn. Please consider giving a contribution in her memory to the Sandra Ann Hizney-Goldman Scholarship Fund, 3740 Sioux Court, Grandville, MI 49418.
