Ruby Schultz was one of those special people who appreciated the many things that make life so valuable - family, friends and faith. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Ruby lived in harmony with her beliefs and ideals, knowing that nothing was more important than the love of her family.

The year was 1911, Howard Taft was President, and the United States was rapidly moving from a rural environment to an industrial powerhouse. On September 29th of that same year, Ruby Beatrice Brock was born in Cameron, Texas, to proud parents, Artie and Mary (Hickman) Brock. Along with her younger sister, Helen, Ruby spent much of her growing up years deep in the heart of Texas. However, in 1927, her father took a job with General Motors, which led the family to move to Detroit, Michigan, and later Grand Rapids. Ruby attended school through the eleventh grade, then left to find work to help support her family.

Ruby was in her mid 20s when she met the love of her life, Archie Schultz. The two were happily married on June 23, 1937, and had three wonderful children: Arthur, Richard and Mary. Archie and Ruby raised their children in Marne, a town just west of Grand Rapids. Whenever they got a chance, the family loved to take weekend trips up and down the Lake Michigan coastline, visiting various parks along the way. Ruby was an excellent swimmer, so it was only natural that she would be drawn to the water. When the children were younger, the family also enjoyed going camping in some of those parks with Helen's family. But their travels weren't limited to just parks, they also ventured to places like the Upper Peninsula, Niagara Falls, Tahquamenon Falls, Texas and Virginia. Many unforgettable memories were made together on these trips, which now become treasures of the heart.

Ruby was a wonderful mother, and excellent example to her children. She taught her kids good habits and strong values that would guide them through their lives. She was also a great cook and treated her family to many delicious meals through the years. Later in life, Ruby enjoyed going out to dinner with her daughter Mary's friends, and playing cards. Ruby was a woman of great faith, and was a long time member of Berlin Baptist Church, where she happily gave of her time and talents in various church activities including being involved with a group which made blankets, quilts and other items for missionaries. Although Ruby will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and dedication leaves her loved ones with wonderful memories to look to for comfort.

Ruby Beatrice Schultz, age 95, left for her heavenly home on December 3, 2006. She was married for 57 years to Archie Schultz who died in 1994. Surviving are her three children: Arthur (Dee) Schultz, Richard (Sharon) Schultz, and Mary (Rob) VanderKolk; 7 grandchildren: Rich, Julia, Steve, Jim, Christine, Crystal and Maria; 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Helen Kuieck. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 7, at 3 p.m. at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Homes - Van't Hof Chapel, 851 Leonard NW. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Rehabilitation & Health Center, Resident Council Fund, 1050 Four Mile NW, Walker, MI 49544.
