Rovel Kiflemariam Woldemicael often called “Robe” or “Rov” was born on February 4th, 1987 to his mother Gidey Mehary and his father Kiflemariam Woldemicael in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents, originally from Eritrea, Africa immigrated to the United States fleeing war in search of a better life for their family. Rovel and his siblings were raised solely by their mother, in lieu of familial woes, he persevered, becoming a loving support for his family, regularly using the terms “don’t worry” and “I got you, mom”

Growing up he was always the ‘class clown’, funny and outgoing. He admired his big brother and found solace in often beating up his sister. Rovel was a middle child full of charisma with a carefree fearless spirit. He loved watching ninja turtles, playing nintendo64 with his brother and spending summers with his family on vacation to visit various amusement parks. He was a confident natural born leader, who commanded a room with his bright smile and smirk comments. Rovel has always had many friends and acquaintances all throughout Grand Rapids, as a young teenager was given the name “Wild African”.

Rovel was known to support his loved ones with his big heart and living via the moment. Rovels’ spirit was infectious, he would always be heard saying “ciao”, a farewell in his native language that many, Eritrean or not, could be heard also saying. Rovel made friends easily, was often found playing craps, listening to audiobooks, watching his favorite streaming series and laughing. He enjoyed being with his family taking them on adventures and traveling with his bro’s. Rovel had a true hustlers' spirit, never letting his setbacks keep him stagnant in his pursuits. He was a risk taker, although scared of heights he was able to overcome his fear and independently go skydiving expressing “it was liberating”. Rovel was always best to give advice to others based on his mistakes, and maintained authenticity and integrity throughout his life on earth. In 2014 he rekindled friendship with Natasha Hamilton whom he loved very much, and in 2015 they started their family of three children together.

On Saturday, July 15th, 2023, Rovel Woldemicael, son, brother, life partner, father, cousin, uncle and friend tragically earned his angel wings. He is survived by his Mother Gidey Mehary, Father Kiflemariam Woldemicael, Brother Filmon Woldemicael, Sister Emnet ‘Amy’ Woldemicael, Life Partner and Soulmate Natasha Hamilton and their three beautiful children Soleh Woldemicael, Rowen Woldemicael, and Elias Woldemicael, his Son Kavion Woldemicael, Godson Michael Thompson Jr. and Goddaughter Sah’Meir Whitfield. Rovel will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his many loved ones.
