Life Story / Obituary
Roger Lee Lovell, aged 76 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 1, 2021. He was born in Sparta, MI in the spring of 1945 to William and Lena [Vande Panne] Lovell. Along with his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margie Ann Lovell [Wright], son James “Jim”, granddaughter Ashley Lovell and 10 of his 11 siblings. Surviving are his children Edward (Shantih) Lovell and Kim (Geoff) Jackson; grandchildren Jesse, Curtis, Morgan, Sam, Emma; great grandchildren Keira, Skylar, MiAsia, Alaycia; sister Betty Magoon as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends and his beloved puppy Lucy. Roger was a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a General Motors retiree after 25 years of dedicated service. He will be fondly remembered for his passion for fishing, gardening, and baking. He was an avid photographer, enjoyed family genealogy and was a doting “Papa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with family on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 2- 3 PM at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Van Strien Creston Chapel, (1833 Plainfield Ave. NE Grand Rapids, MI 49505). Roger’s funeral service, with military honors, will follow visitation beginning at 3 PM. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice of Holland Home (2121 Raybrook Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546).
