Life Story / Obituary

Print

Rodney K. Wilson, age 54 of Comstock Park, MI, passed away very unexpectedly at his home on Saturday afternoon, December 23, 2006. He is survived by his best friend, soul mate and wife of 23 years, Debi Wilson (Deck); his son, Ty, who was a huge source of pride and joy. Rod enjoyed watching and supporting his son in his many sporting interests. Rod was the greatest sports fan ever! He never missed an opportunity to support his son his nieces and nephews in their chosen sports. Rod shared his love of sports and trap shooting with his son and wife, Debi. Rod is also survived by his mother and father, Virginia and Morris Wilson; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Mark and Kate Wilson, John and Kathy Wilson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Virginia and Dick Brinkey; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Robin and Dennis Post, Kurt and Lisa Deck; his step in-laws, Steve and Kathy Brinkey, Dave and Cherie Hood, Lori Brinkey; many beloved nieces and nephews and many friends.

Rod will be sorely missed by many dear friends who appreciated his dry sense of humor and quiet strength. He was a man who could always be counted on to be there for his family and friends. After graduating from Kenowa Hills High School and Michigan State University, Rod honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he returned home and took back his place in the family business, eventually co-owning and operating Gracewil Country Club and Golf Course. He was a member of Madison Square Sportsman's Club, West Michigan Golf Course Superintendent Association and Trinity Congregational Church.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Congregational Church, 2725 Four Mile Rd NW, with Rev. James DeWitt officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to meet his family at Gracewil Country Club, 2597 Four Mile Road NW, for a time of visitation on Tuesday, December 26, from 7-9 p.m. and again on Wednesday, December 27, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Rod's memory to the Trinity Congregational Church or Kenowa Hills High School Athletic Boosters. Please visit www.lifestorynet.com where you may leave a memory of Rod and sign his guestbook. Life Story Funeral Home, Van't Hof Chapel (459-6137).
