VERHEY - Mr. Robert J. Verhey, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 83 on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 after a brief illness. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, Mr. Verhey served 8 years in the U.S. Navy. He was the owner and president of Verhey Carpets for 48 years and a longtime volunteer and treasurer for the Trinitarian Bible Society. Mr. Verhey is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gertrude; their children Mary (Dave) Bazen, David (Linda) Verhey, and John Verhey; grandchildren Carrie (Kevin) Knibbe, Aron (Kerri) Bazen, Heidi (Joel) Skipper, Nate and Matt Bazen, Rachel, Melissa, Brad and Daniel Verhey; six great grandchildren; sisters Kathryn Vander Sloot and Marian Ver Hage; and a special niece Shirley (Jack) Olree. The funeral service for Mr. Verhey will be on Saturday at 11 AM at Heritage Netherlands Reformed Chapel, 540 Crescent St. NE with Rev. F. Vander Zwaag officiating. The graveside service will follow at Washington Park Memorial Gardens with Pastor J. Stehouwer officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Van't Hof Chapel, 851 Leonard NW on Thursday from 7-9 PM and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
