Robert D. Schanz

Robert D. Schanz, aged 61, of Cooper Twp., Plainwell, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, November 30, 2006, dying at home in his sleep. Mr. Schanz was born October 28, 1945 in Allegan, the son of William H. and Ada F. (Busfield) Schanz. He was a 1964 graduate of Allegan High School and had attended ITT Institute in Indianapolis for two years. He was a member of the Merson Church and had been employed at IBM for almost 30 years, retiring in 2002. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Gardner), whom he married June 26, 1965; three children, Bob Jr. and Deborah Schanz of Allegan, Angela and Eric Smith of Midland and Stacey and Rick Post of Hudsonville; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Katelynn, Bobby, Molly, Isaac, Isaiah, Kyle, Emma, and Celia; five brothers, Joe Schanz of Decatur, Marion and Shirley Schanz of Allegan, David Schanz of Florida, Dan and Bonnie Schanz of Otsego, and Carl and Pat Schanz of Allegan; four sisters, Donna and Bud Robart of Plainwell, Eleanor Kolhoff of Florida, Evelyn and Glen Gorby, and Edna Hatfield all of Allegan; one brother-in-law, Bob and Sandy Gardner of Houghton Lake; several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Dockweiler and Dorothy Schanz. Friends may meet with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Merson Church. Pastor Gail Pike officiating. Interment Lindsley Cemetery, Cheshire Twp.
