Rev. John Maas, aged 79, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2006. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a minister in the Christian Reformed Church for 34 years beginning in Woden, IA. He also served his congregations in Everett, WA; South Olive, MI; and Marion, SD, from which he retired. He was a devoted husband of 52 years to his wife, Lavonne; a beloved father to his children, Mark (Ann) Maas of Grand Haven, Mary (Richard) Hayward of Lewiston, ID, Joel (Sandy) Maas of Terra Haute, IN, Paul (Julie) Maas of West Olive. He was a loving grandfather to 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Ted (Aletha) Maas, Jeanette Bergakker, Florence (Elmer) Nymeyer, Harold Maas, Dorothy (Roger) DeHaan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bert Dejong, Wallace (Mindy) Niewenhuis, Kenneth (Juella) Niewenhuis, Calvin (Ethel) Niewenhuis, Dale (Fran) Niewenhuis, Bob (Faith) Niewenhuis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Maas. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Hope Christian Reformed Church, 3100 Barrett Street, Grandville with Rev. Vander Hart officiating. Interment Olive Township Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Crossroads Bible Institute or the CRWRC.
