Life Story / Obituary
Patricia Ann Cooley, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Patricia was born on August 27, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to George and Lorene Heibel. She was the seventh of ten children and grew up in a lively, close-knit household alongside her siblings: Theola, Ken, Lloyd, Joyce, Donna, Shirley, Marilyn, Lorraine, and Carol.
A proud 1955 graduate of Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, Patricia shined as a baton majorette in the school’s marching band. Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life, Gordon Cooley, on October 8, 1955. Together, they built a family and a life filled with devotion and love.
While living in the Grand Rapids area, Patricia and Gordon welcomed four children, all of whom survive her: Cindy Mullen, Sandy Nuismer, Scott Cooley, and Todd Cooley. She was also a proud grandmother to Brian Demoray, Erin Lukjan, Tyler Cooley, and Allie Cooley, and a cherished great-grandmother to Daphne Demoray, Sydney Cooley, Henrik Demoray, Lydia Cooley, Julian Demoray, and Violet Lukjan.
In June of 1982, Patricia and Gordon moved to Ormond Beach, Florida, where she enjoyed a long career in the banking industry. She worked with First Union Bank, managing security across a district of locations, and was highly respected for her dedication and professionalism.
Beyond her career, Patricia had a love for travel. She delighted in trips between Florida and Michigan to visit family, as well as cruises through the Caribbean and journeys to Germany, celebrating her heritage. No matter where she went, Patricia’s greatest joy was in her roles as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was marked by warmth, compassion, and a deep love for those she held close.
In 2019, Patricia returned to Michigan to live with her daughter Sandy, who lovingly cared for her throughout her difficult journey with dementia.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Patricia’s memory to Hospice of Michigan (www.hom.org/donate), whose support brought comfort and peace in her final living moments.
Patricia’s legacy of love and family devotion will be carried on through the generations she so dearly cherished. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated, Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1048 Chicago Dr SW, Wyoming, MI 49509 where friends can visit with family beginning at 10:30 AM. Patricia will be laid to rest next to Gordon in Resurrection Cemetery.
