Pat Mroz

Patricia Ann Mroz, lovingly known as Pat, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure.

Pat and her beloved husband, Edward, shared 67 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, laughter, music, and adventure.

Pat had a lifelong love of Elvis, and even as her memory began to fade, his music would still bring a smile to her face. No one could make her smile quite like Elvis - but only one could make her heart swell the way Ed did. Whether watching Ed play in his band for several years, or listening to the accordion fill the house, music became one of the sweetest threads woven through their life together. Pat would often wake up to the sound of Ed playing a harmonica with one of her favorite songs. Ed was her one true love and her partner in every adventure.

While Pat accomplished much throughout her life, family was her greatest joy. She treasured time spent together, whether playing cards, Yahtzee, cribbage, or heading out for a casino trip. If you ever needed a late night call, or Pat was ever needed, you knew she was up with the TV on reading her nightly prayers. If you were doing something with Pat, one thing was for sure- there would be laughter. She celebrated even the smallest of accomplishments and had a wonderful way of making everyone around her feel seen and supported. Family traditions were especially meaningful. Thanksgiving Eve was spent with her granddaughters preparing the holiday meal. Christmas meant wrapping presents with her grandchildren and gathering everyone at home on Christmas Day. Easter dinner was another cherished tradition; you could always find Grandma’s blessed butter sitting on the table. These traditions are deeply treasured by her family.

Pat and Ed loved to travel, making countless memories in their favorite places such as St. Pete Beach, Florida, and Las Vegas. Pat was always open to an adventure, sharing in special trips with her grandchildren to Italy, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and beyond. She never missed a milestone in her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren’s lives.

Pat’s story began in Grand Rapids, where she was born on November 2, 1940, to Gertrude and Richard Lemmink. As an only child, she shared a close and special bond with her cousin, Barbara Czurak. From an early age, Pat loved performing and was a talented toe dancer, even performing at the Civic Theatre. Some of her fondest memories came from growing up in the country surrounded by her many uncles. She graduated from Marywood Academy in 1958.

Pat was incredibly proud of her career as a Registered Nurse, She worked for several hospital systems throughout the greater Grand Rapids area, serving in oncology, PACU, and eventually clinical research. She spent her final chapter of her nursing career at Metro Health Hospital. She (finally) retired at the age of 74, leaving behind a career marked by dedication and compassion. Pat was also a breast cancer survivor, a testament to her strength and resilience.

Pat’s life was full of love - not only in her big moments but in the countless small ones. Her laughter, traditions, stories, strength, and ability to make every person feel special will live on in the generations she leaves behind.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years: Edward; her children: Ed (Jeannine) Mroz and Terri (Mike) Mathieu; her grandchildren: Alexandria (Doug) Campbell, Brittani (Dario) Sierra, Katelyn Mroz, Eddie (Sabrina) Mroz, and John Mroz; four great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Richard Lemmink. She will be deeply missed by the many friends and family members whose lives she touched.

Funeral Mass will be conducted on Monday, October 5, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 3-5:00 P.M. at Heritage Life Story Funeral Homes- Van Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield Ave., NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505 and on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at the church. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery. Honors will be presented by the Grand Rapids Area Nurse Honor Guard.
