HUGO, Mona L.

Grand Rapids, MI

Age 78, passed away October 20, 2021 with her loving family at her side. Mona was born October 22, 1942 in Manistique, MI to the late Leo and Beatrice (Isaac) Minor. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest “Mike” Vertz and Randall Hugo; brothers, Don Minor, Robert Minor and Jack Minor. Mona was a proud member of Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. She worked at Meijer retiring after 33 years, and would fondly recall her days at Meijer socializing with customers and establishing life long friendships with colleagues. She loved being a part of the Red Hat Society. Mona will be remembered for her positive and uplifting personality, and her devotion to her friends and family. She is survived by her children, Michael (Chris Moore) Vertz of Grand Rapids, Michele (Kyle) Hillman of Grand Rapids, Mona (Pete) Wojtas of Grand Rapids, Mia Eilers of Grand Rapids, Marcia (Bram) van der Ploeg of Granville, OH; grandchildren, Blake (Amy) Vertz, Adam Vertz, Heather (George) Golliver, Andrew (Kelly) Hillman, Jessica (Tyler VanReed) Hillman, Evan Hillman, Hunter Wojtas, Harrison Wojtas, Fisher Wojtas, Rembrandt van der Ploeg, Madelaine van der Ploeg; great grandchildren, Sadie, Henry, Alivia, George, Noa, and Robert. She is also survived by her sister, Joanne Schnurer; sisters-in-law, Myrle Minor, Donna Minor; and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 11 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2230 Lake Michigan Drive NW. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, October 24th from 4-7 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park.
