Mike Whalen

Michael Joseph Whalen “Mike”, age 83, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Corewell Health – Butterworth Hospital in the presence of his family.

Mike was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Joseph and Rosemary [O'Connor] Whalen.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Kathryn E. "Kay" [Kampfschulte] Whalen as well as by his brothers Thomas and Brian.

Mike is survived by his siblings: Mary Ann Price, Terry and Kathy Whalen, Dennis and Kathy Whalen, Patricia and Joe Pinsen and his sister-in-law Carol Whalen. Also surviving are his brother-in-laws John Kampfschulte and Jim and Cheryl Kampfschulte as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mike had enjoyed a long and successful career working as a Technical Director in the Health Care Industry in Grand Rapids. He enjoyed his many trips to Ireland visiting with his second family there. Mike had been a long time parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 29, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, (423 First St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504).

Mike will be laid to rest next to Kathryn in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with his family prior to the service at church beginning at 10 a.m.
