Mel Peterson

Mr. Melvin A. Peterson, age 91 of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 2, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mabel (Carlson) Peterson; brothers, Howard and Darrell Peterson, Kenneth and Doris Peterson; and sister, Evelyn and Frank Moxon. Mel is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Donna. Also surviving are his children, James and Cathryn Peterson and Jane and Kevin Gotberg; grandsons, Mark and Kelly Gotberg, and Erik and Elizabeth Gotberg; and great grandchildren, Svea, Noah, Malin and Samuel Gotberg. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Donna Peterson and Pat Peterson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends. Mel was a life long member of First Evangelical Covenant Church where he served the Lord faithfully over the years. Mel graduated from Union High School in 1953 and attended Davenport Business College. He was a veteran the United States Army stationed in Korea. Mel worked for 30 years and retired from Reynolds Metals Co., then was employed by DeVries Jewelers for 20 years. Mel loved to play golf and ski. He especially loved to spend time with his family. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 14, 2026 at 11 AM at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1933 Tremont Blvd NW 49504. Friends may visit with his family beginning at 10 AM at the church. A private family graveside service has been held at Rosedale Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to Portage Lake Bible Camp or First Evangelical Covenant Church.
