Matthew Holwerda

aged 84 of Grand Rapids passed away at Covenant Living Retirement on April 28, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Margery Holwerda, his loving wife of 33 years Joyce and his beloved son Daniel, brothers George (Bob) Holwerda and Harvey Holwerda and sister Gertrude Swagman. He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Joseph) Chadbourne, his stepchildren, Chuck (Rhena) Groters, Don (Becky) Groters, Karen (Greg) Colon. Nine Grandchildren, Jason Holwerda, Stevie Lopez, Kaleb, Rachel and Alex Groters, Colton and Sunny Groters, Bryant and Briana Colon and many nieces and nephews and friends. Matt served in the Army from 1954 thru 1956 during the Korean War. Matt retired from NCR Corporation after 30 years of service. He and Joyce loved to travel, even traveling to Europe. Matt and Joyce spent winters in Florida and summers in Michigan. They enjoyed playing cards and engaging in many activities with their friends in Florida. Matt enjoyed camping with his grandchildren every summer. Matt had a generous heart and he loved the Lord and his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never missed a chance at a clever joke or a quick come-back. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be missed dearly. Rest in Peace, We love you!
