Mary E. Essex, [Spidle] age 82, passed away in the company of her family and in the comfort of her home in Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday, September 3, 2025.

Mary was born in September of 1942 in Detroit, MI to the late Robert and Nell [Sweet] Spidle.

Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Essex, grandson Michael Smith, brother Robert Spidle and his wife Barb and her sister Susan Conlin and her husband Jim.

Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert, “Bob” and by her children Michele Walsh, Marybeth (Bill) Kincaid, Bob (Lori) Essex and Jason Essex as well as by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services have been scheduled to take place at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Alt-Shawmut Chapel, (2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504) on Monday September 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM followed by a reception with refreshments and fellowship.

Mary will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MI.
