Life Story / Obituary
Mary Kay DeBruine age 81, of Grand Rapids passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 while in the company of her family.
She was born to the late Jasper and Anne [Goudzwaard] VanDyke in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the spring of 1944.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carl John DeBruine, her daughter Karen (David Splittgerber) Seager as well as by her brother John (Deb) VanDyke.
Mary has been a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Creston High School. She was an active member of New Community Church and for many years volunteered in the gift shop at Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. In her later years, Mary and Carl enjoyed the many new friends they met at Breton Woods of Holland Home.
Friends and relatives may meet with her family on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Homes, Van Strien-Creston Chapel, (1833 Plainfield Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505).
A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow beginning at 11:00 AM.
Mary will be laid to rest at Rosedale Memorial Gardens in Tallmadge Township, Michigan.
