Life Story / Obituary
Marvin C. Grit, aged 93 years, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
On April 12, 1957, Marvin married the love of his life - a city girl - Millie, at Fairview Reformed Church. Marv served his country in the United States Army in Germany after spending time training in the states.
Marv loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and had many loving friendships over the years, many of these often visiting from church including Fairview Reformed, Seventh Reformed, and currently of Walker United Reformed Church.
Marv attended Hudsonville Public Schools through the 10th grade. He worked on the family farm and has always been a farm boy at heart. Following his discharge from the military he started working at Rose Patch where he would build and repair their machines. Marv then worked for a number of years at Leon Plastics, before returning to Rose Patch. Marv ended his working years at Lear, before retiring in 1991.
Following his retirement Marv went back to his roots of farming by maintaining his garden and growing award winning sweet corn. In his spare time Marv served his community as a handyman.
Marv served his Lord and Savior by serving as deacon and elder over the years. He served for ten years as a bus driver at Fairview Reformed church. Marv always opened his heart and home to people who needed to learn of the gospel. He was not ashamed of the Gospel and loved to tell the story.
Marv is preceded in death by his beloved wife Millie, his twin sister Marian, sister Lorena, brothers Jerry and Henry.
Marv is survived by his brother Donald Grit, and sister-in-law Shirley Grit; as well as nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Walker United Reformed Church, 1941 Randall Ave NW. Visitation will be held at church from 9:30 AM until the start of the service. Interment in Washington Park Memorial Gardens.
