Life Story / Obituary
(Belmont) Mrs. Martha M. Piasecki, age 83, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2006. Growing up on the farm on Herrington Avenue in Belmont, Mrs. Piasecki remembered those days during the Depression when they sold their farm produce leaving very little for the family to eat. She was a graduate in 1942 from Rockford High School. After meeting her husband Ben at a dance, they found out that they both worked in Grand Rapids so they rode to work together. After dating, they were married at Assumption BVM Catholic Church on August 31, 1946. Many people will remember the produce stand in front of her home in Belmont where she sold raspberries, strawberries, and all kinds of flowers. The family also had a lot on Freska Lake which became a popular gathering spot for family and friends. One day Bob Cramer knocked on her door and asked her to be a school bus driver for Assumption. Later she drove for Rockford Public Schools from 1964-1986; she never had a school bus accident. Mrs. Piasecki taught her children humor and was always there for her family. She was a very generous and caring person who had a heart that was as big as she was. Mrs. Piasecki was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church and the Consolata Missionary Guild. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann and Roger Miller of Belmont, and Tony Piasecki of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer Miller, Nolan and Carrie Miller, Brittani Piasecki, and Marissa Piasecki; great granddaughter, Sarah Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben on August 22, 1997, a brother, Tony Gedritis, and sister, Elizabeth Gedritis. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Piasecki will be offered on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption BVM Catholic Church with The Rev. Peter Vu presiding. Interment in Assumption Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Education Endowment Foundation of Assumption Parish, 6393 Belmont Ave., Belmont, MI 49306. Friends may meet with the Piasecki family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10:30 until the time of Mass at the church on Wednesday.
