Marie Louise Koster, age 65, passed away peacefully June 27, 2026 in the arms of her loving wife, with her family at her side. Marie was born November 13, 1960 in Detroit, to the late Eugene and Mary Ann (Burlingame) Rutledge. She graduated from Henry Ford School of Nursing with her RN. She dedicated 30 years of her life caring for others in the healthcare field. Marie loved people deeply and had a gift for creating space for connection, acceptance and kindness. On December 5, 2010, Marie married the love of her life, Kim Koster who survives her. Also left to cherish her memory are her children, Samantha (Luis) Burke, and Alexander Bengsch; stepchildren, Bonham, Cash, & Jett; grandsons, Scot & Luis; sister, Anne (Steven) Gordon-Benson; in-laws, Renee (Jeremy) Goodemoot, and Ken (Lynnette) Koster; special friends, the Malski Family, Stephanie, Michael, Ben & Jay, and Jollie Ausburn; and beloved nieces and nephews, Jim & Dani DeBusman, Kaleb, Abigail & Bryce; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Faith Hospice or Glioblastoma Foundation.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, July 9, 2026 beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a short service, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life open house until 8:00 p.m..

Family and friends are welcome to come and go as they are able as we share stories, laughter, and love in honor of Marie. Food and beverages will be provided. The service and open house will be held at The Rutledge located at 120 Ionia Ave. SW Ste 101, Grand Rapids, Mi 49503.

Please note: Parking is available in the Studio Park lot at 120 Ottawa Ave SW, the Cherry Commerce Parking lot at 141 Commerce Ave SW, and any available street parkiing. For those travelling from out of town, the Canopy Hotel directly across the street provides discounted rooms for guests of The Rutledge. The venue is handicap accessible for those needing assistance.
