Lanny Barendse

Lanny Dale Barendse was born from the union of Carolyn Wright and George Barendse on Feb. 3, 1947, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Who proceeded him in death. Lanny spent most of his working life at Consumers Energy as a welder. Lanny taught welding at a community school for several years. Lanny loved making and fixing things with his hands. Lanny's love of his Harley’s was well known to anyone who knew him. Lanny was a member of United Way and that's how he met the Love of his Life. Jeanette and Lanny were Married Aug. 8, 2001, in Sturgis, South Dakota. They lived happily in Port Sheldon Township for 20 years. Lanny and Jeanette had no children with their union, but from a previous marriage Lanny had two children Heather (Jorge) Almanza and Stacy D. Barendse. Jeanette brought into their union 4 girls Consuelo Downey. Jacqueline (Jerrmell Jones) Downey-Jones, Nakiea Downey and Miracle Wilson. Together they had 27 grandchildren and 9 great grandkids. Lanny passed away on September 14, 2021. Lanny was survived by his wife Jeanette and their children. His sister’s Sherry & her husband Michael Magnotta, Marcia & her Husband Richard Burgen and Wanda Stevens (Bonn her son), Lanny has one Auntie Edna Smith and through her a host of other loving family. A celebration of Lanny’s Life will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 11AM- 1 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW. A graveside service will be held at Rosedale Memorial Park, 50 Lake Michigan Drive, following the visitation.
