Joyce Callow Motta, age 79, passed away on December 15, 2025, in Rockford, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Motta; her parents Winifred and Charles Callow; and her brother Ken Callow.
Joyce was born on January 15, 1946, in Cheverly, Maryland. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Lansing Community College before continuing her studies at Michigan State University, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in early Childhood Development. She also attended the University of Maryland and the University of Miami during her academic journey.
Joyce taught elementary school for Grand Ledge Public Schools. Prior to this she had been a substitute teacher, a library worker, a school volunteer, and a Sunday school teacher.
She enjoyed family and friends, reading novels, watching mystery shows and Hallmark movies, and surfing the internet. Above all else, Joyce loved children, and this guided every aspect of her life.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her sons Michael Motta, Matthew Motta, and Nathan Motta; granddaughters Anastasia Motta, Allison Motta, Sage Motta, and Avery Motta; and great-grandson Luca. She also leaves behind her sister Eileen (Dennis) Jones, brother Daniel (Judy) Callow; and numerous nieces and nephews across generations.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering is being planned for late spring in the greater Lansing area.
