Jose Mendez, age 74, died December 11, 2006. He was born in Havana, Cuba June 6, 1932 and moved to the United States with his lovely wife Olga Mendez, and his eight children. Jose lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was employed at Dickinson Press for 32 years, and retired at the age of 65 in 1992. He was also a member of the Emanuel Spanish Christian Reformed Church of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jose was married in 1949 in Havana, Cuba and will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Olga Mendez. He leaves behind his eight children, Reinaldo (Dialina) Mendez, Heriberto (Karen) Mendez, Mercedes Mendez, Fransisco (Alina) Mendez, Carlos (Mariela) Mendez, Jose (Jamie) Mendez, Roberto Mendez, Leandro Mendez and fiance Pamela Anderson; 30 grandchildren including spouses and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Maria Lopez of Spain; sister-in-law, Felina Mendez of Cuba; brother-in-law Louis (Rosa) Abad of FL. Jose will be missed by many friends and family including Barbara Mendez-Lastra, and Lynda Mendez-Flynn. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Carlos and Andrea (Jimenez) Mendez; brother, Carlos Mendez Jr.; father-in-law, Luis Abad, and mother-in-law Graciela Pedrero. He loved to go boating and also loved his birds. He will be sadly missed. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, 8 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville and Friday, 11 a.m. at his church, Emanuel Christian Reformed, 1265 36th St. SW, with Rev. Carlos Tapanes officiating. Entombment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet Jose's family at the Cook Memorial Chapel (east building) Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday.
