John Michael VanBlooys, age 72, of Sparta, Michigan, passed away the afternoon of July 7th, 2023, with his son Nicholas, and his daughter-in-law, Amanda, by his side.

John was born May 6, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to John and Annetta VanBlooys. He graduated from West Catholic High School.

In John’s early years, he spent a lot of time on boats and developed a love for the water. Even earning his diving certification in the late summer of ‘86.

He enjoyed working on his Camaro and taking long, relaxing drives around Michigan and cruising the lakeshore. Always making sure to stop at the marinas along the way to check out the sailboats.

John had many stories and loved to tell them to anyone who would listen. He knew a little bit of everything and wasn’t shy about sharing it or giving advice anytime someone asked. He also loved to go to Trivia nights at his local Sparta Moose Lodge every Wednesday.

He is survived by his son, Nicholas VanBlooys, brother Tom, his sisters Pat, Lisa, and Linda, along with his mother Annetta. He was preceded in death by his sister Paula, and his father, John Sr.

Grave side services will be held at Washington Park Memorial Gardens on Friday, July 21st at 9:00 am. All family and friends are welcome to come pay their respects as it will be open to the public.
