All who knew Jeremy Doty could attest to his fierce love of his family. He especially cherished the time he spent with his family out on the water fishing, boating, and biking. Jeremy had a special knack for treating all people with kindness and was accepting of people from all walks of life. Nothing made him happier than to share in the success of others and surround himself with friends and family. Gone too soon, Jeremy will be deeply missed and his wonderful collection of memories will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever.

Reflecting on the year 1980, it was the mark of a new promising decade. The Winter Olympic Games were wrapping up in Lake Placid, New York, Mount St. Helens had unleashed a widespread eruption in Washington, and the Rubik’s cube was just hitting the shelves. On May 31st, Patrick and Susan (Wright) Doty welcomed home their newborn baby boy, Jeremy James, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Joining his twin brother Patrick, who was born just three minutes prior, his birth brought great joy into the hearts of his loving parents. Later, the family welcomed home their baby sister, Amanda.

The beginning of Jeremy’s life involved several moves between Nashville and Wyoming Michigan before they settled into their family home on 8th Avenue in Marne. No matter where he landed, Jeremy was always a very content and happy baby. He attended local schools beginning at Marne Elementary. Active and on the go, he played Little League and participated in Boy Scouts. During his time in school, Jeremy found interest in music and played trumpet in the band. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1998 from Kenowa Hills High School.

Born with a curious mind, Jeremy was into the technology craze at a young age. He loved to tinker with the latest form of technology and snatched up the first generation of plasma televisions as soon as they hit the market! Jeremy had a real knack for computers and cell phones and spent time figuring out how they worked and dappled in some early forms of repair or setting up programs. It was no surprise that he furthered his education by attending IT classes at local colleges and never had trouble finding work in his field. He eventually earned a degree from Davenport University in Computer Science. After some time with the IT department at the Amway Hotel Corporation, he landed his latest position with Fed Ex. Well-liked by his co-workers, It brought him great joy to solve problems and help others with technology.

Jeremy held a wide variety of special interests. Self-motivated as well as independent he taught himself many talents over the years. He learned to play the acoustic guitar by watching videos and practicing songs, even playing at his own wedding! Married for a short time, Jeremy loved being a stepdad and husband. He wanted nothing more than to share his love of nature with his family. Interested in photography as well, he learned to fly a drone and became licensed as an FAA drone pilot. Jeremy also loved his cars! He had a Dodge Daytona, a Ford Fairmont, and his latest was his blue Jeep! He enjoyed taking drives and kept his vehicles in great shape. When it came to physical exercise, he favored mountain biking with family and friends on the Dragon Trail along the Hardy Dam near his parent's home. Recently, he was attending Cornerstone Church in Caledonia and was into listening to Christian pop music. He was grateful for his support and work in AA managing his addictions. Jeremy’s belief in a higher power gave him hope and grounded him in his sobriety. He found his peace among family and friends as well as along any stretch of nature where he could hear the birds and the ripples around him.

Willing to lend a listening ear, shoulder to cry on, or a joke or comment to end in laughter were the many gifts he gave over the years. Jeremy was a beautiful friend, loving son, helpful brother, and fun uncle. Sadly, he is gone. His presence among his special friends and family will be deeply missed. May they lean on the special moments he leaves behind and may his memories be eternal.

Mr. Jeremy James Doty age 42, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Scott Doty; and cousin, Teddy Totoraitis. Jeremy is survived by his parents, Patrick and Susan Doty; siblings, Pat Doty and Amanda Doubblestien and her children, Jasmin, Kylee, and Connor; grandparents, Ray and Shirley Doty and Sharon Spencer; and several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
