Jeffery Slachter, aged 49, of Jenison, went home to be with his Lord after a 10 year courageous battle with brain cancer. He was a loving husband and father with a kind, gentle and compassionate spirit, who always had a smile. He was looking forward to being "grandpa" to his first grandchild, who is expected to arrive in the next few weeks. Jeff was a dedicated employee of Steelcase Desk Plant for the past 26 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pamela (DeYoung) Slachter; his daughter and son-in-law, Candie and Josh Palmer; his parents, Joe and Barbara Slachter; brother, Rodney and Lisa Slachter; sister, Amy and Doug VanderWoude; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Connie DeYoung; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Amanda and Shane Moerdyk; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Dr., Grandville with Rev. John R. Smith officiating. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
