Life Story / Obituary

Print

Jason Robert Camp (or, as he preferred, Jay) was born in Grand Rapids, MI on March 11, 1981, to Barb and Bob Camp. He was the third of four children. Jay attended Grand Rapids Christian High School and Calvin University.

Jay always had a curious and creative mind. As a child, he could be found taking apart and reassembling household appliances, building death defying ziplines, climbing everything in sight, all while using his extensive and never-ending imagination. He was an excellent problem- solver, a gift on full display almost every day he worked at Pure Mitten Hops Farm.

In true Camp fashion, he was a competitor in various sports, excelling in hockey. Jay seemed to have an endless number of passions, a few of which included nature, music, history and politics. Characteristics that drew others to Jay included his sense of humor, storytelling abilities, and quick wit. There was a reason everyone wanted to hang out with Jay. He was extremely giving - a friend to all he encountered. He truly knew how to walk in other people’s shoes. If you knew Jay, he loved with his whole heart and was a cheerful giver.

Jay was predeceased by his grandparents, Jay and Winifred Anema, Walter and Dorothy Camp, and his beloved Mother in 2021; he is survived by his father, his three sisters, Heather Camp (Harpreet Mangat), Heidi Camp, and Mandy Dieleman (Justin) and his nieces and nephews - Jaydyn and Samira Mangat and Noah and Elaina Dieleman.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 5:30 to 7:30 pm; the funeral service, followed by a luncheon, will be on Saturday, June 15th, at 11:00 am both of which are at Seymour Christian Reformed Church: 840 Alger St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507. At 4:00 pm, we will hold a celebration of life in honor of Jay at Fallasburg Park picnic area B2: 1124 Fallasburg Park Dr NE Lowell, MI 49331. We invite all who wish to honor Jay, a beloved child of God, to attend this celebration.

Flowers may be delivered to Seymour Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Jay’s recent passion NOBL (Neighbors of Belknap Lookout) Tool Library, Habitat for Humanity, and Guiding Light Missions.
