Life Story / Obituary

Jane Marilyn (Anderson) Elliot, 92, most recently of Asbury, Iowa, died Sunday, September 25, 2022. Jane was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 22, 1930, the only child of Harry and Edna Anderson. Beginning at a young age, summers were spent in the beloved Upper Peninsula of Michigan with extended family. As a young girl of 11 or 12, Jane accepted the truth of Jesus' love for her, shown by His dying on the cross for her and paying the penalty for her sin, after listening to Charles Fuller preach on “The Old Fashioned Revival Hour” one Sunday. She went on to attend Wheaton College and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Christian Education. It was there she met her husband, John, and they were married on May 2, 1953. Within days, they were in El Paso, Texas, for John's military service before returning a few years later and settling in the Chicagoland area.

Throughout her life, Jane was very active in serving her family, church ministries, and various missions organizations. She and John also enjoyed traveling to many places around the world with life-long friends. Jane was always known for her smile and cheerful disposition. Her children and their families are grateful to God for her, and because of her faith in Jesus, are rejoicing that she went safely home to Him.

Jane is survived by her daughter Marni and husband Phil Wielenga of Traverse City, Michigan; son David and wife Diane Elliot of Grand Junction, Colorado; son Bill and wife Karen Elliot of Asbury, Iowa; daughter Kerri and husband Scott Forney of Wake Forest, North Carolina; grandson Ben Wielenga and wife Karen of Traverse City, Michigan; grandson Dan Wielenga and wife Kimberly of Bozeman, Montana; granddaughter Jenny and husband James Young of Three Forks, Montana; granddaughter Corrie of Traverse City, Michigan; grandson Nate and wife Brooke of Yuba, Michigan; grandson Sam and wife Chelsy of Belgrade, Montana; grandson Scott and wife Janelle of Lynden, Washington; grandson Stephen and wife Danielle of Dubuque, Iowa; granddaughter Sharon and husband Kore Lee Hoehn of Dubuque, Iowa; grandchildren Kathryn, Jonathan, Kristen, Jason, and Kelyn of Wake Forest, North Carolina; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Her interment will take place on October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MI.

The family will be having a private celebration of her life sometime next year. She requested that we have a family party!

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to SAT-7 (sat7usa.org), Bright Hope International (brighthope.org), or Yellowstone Alliance Adventures. (yaacamp.org) These ministries were all very special to her.
