James Helm

James H. Helm, 91 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Covenant Living of The Great Lakes Respite Care in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jim was born August 6, 1932 in Darke County, Ohio to the late William Albert and Sarah Felicia (Zumbrum) Helm. Jim served for the United States Air force in Florida from 1951 – 1955. He then attended Miami of Ohio University where he met and married his wife Mary Sheila Helm (Thompson) on August 30, 1957. Jim graduated from The University of Hawaii with a degree in Psychology. He spent much of his career as a systems analyst. In his free time Jim enjoyed traveling, reading, sailing, playing cards and watching sports. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sheila on January 1, 2011, and grandson Eric Helm on January 12, 2010. He is survived by his sons, Brad, Bill (Darlene), and Bob (Kim). He is also survived by grandchildren Paige (James) Tipton, Jimmy Helm, Nathan Helm, and Jacob Helm. A service to remember James will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, with a time of visiting prior, at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes Chapel, 2510 Lake Michigan Drive NW., Grand Rapids MI, 49504.
