Rockford) Howard M. Dodd, aged 61, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2006 at his home, surrounded by family. He was raised in Indianapolis, IN, where he graduated from North Central High School. He attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY, where he received a Bachelor of Arts and met his future bride, Donna Shotwell. Finally, his desire to cure social injustice led him to the legal profession. He received his Juris Doctorate from Indiana University, Indianapolis. Howard began his career as a public defender and later worked as a prosecutor in Marion County, IN. Finally, his family moved to Rockford, and he worked for the National Labor Relations Board. Howard was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha, the Free & Accepted Masons and Shriners, and was the chairman of the zoning board of appeals in Cannon Township. He enjoyed cooking, reading, woodworking, collecting antiques, caring for the family pets, and visiting with friends and family. He was an avid Indiana Basketball fan and supported his children and family in all of their endeavors. He taught by example, and instilled in his children the values of work, honesty, integrity, and individuality. He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Howard M. Dodd, Jr. of Grand Rapids, A. Kassi Dodd, Esq. of Indianapolis, IN, and Hilary D. Moore, Esq. and her husband Dr. Jason R. Moore of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Howard Cohen Dodd and Nora Crowley Dodd; niece, Tina McNees and her husband, Jim and son, J.T. of Indianapolis, IN. Howard was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Marie Dodd and Virginia Stott. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford. Friends are invited to visit with the family immediately prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
