Harold Van Asselt, aged 95 of Grand Rapids went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday February 19, 2019. He was born in the summer of 1923 to the late Cornelius and Martha Van Asselt in Wyoming, MI. Along with his parents Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Jean [Vander Werf] as well as by their daughter Linda Van Asselt. He is survived by his children Steven (Cathy) and David (Carol) Van Asselt; grandchildren Lee (Angela), Brad, Scott,Trevor, and Bryce Van Asselt; great grandsons Ethan and Davis Van Asselt and his sister-in-law Mary Staff. Harold was a proud graduate and avid fan of the University of Michigan. He also proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. Harold had been an active member at both Bethany and Orchard Hill Reformed Churches where he served in church leadership, athletics, community outreach and assisting with service audio and video. He also generously shared his talents as a community student mathematics tutor. Harold had enjoyed a long career with Rapistan/Dematic as a mechanical engineer. He lived a full life and touched every one around him and he will be lovingly remembered as being devoted to his church and his God. A memorial visitation will take place at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Van Strien, Creston Chapel (1833 Plainfield Ave. NE Grand Rapids, MI 49505) on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 12-2 PM. Harold will be laid to rest with his wife Shirley and daughter Linda in Oakhill Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI.
