George Zainea

George Zainea, age 83, of San Diego, CA passed away January 19, 2026. George was born October 2, 1942 in Grand Rapids, to the late Mitri and Georgette (Jacob) Zainea. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Joseph Zainea and Mitchell Zainea; and sisters-n-law, Margaret Zainea, Alice Zainea and Cathy Zainea. George proudly made his career in the U.S. Navy retiring after 20 years of service with the rank of Quartermaster First Class. He served on both diesel and nuclear submarines and during the Vietnam Conflict. George is survived by his siblings, Sam Zainea, Moses (Francine) Zainea, Mitri Zainea; sister, Rose (Charles) Zainea-Wieten; friend, Jim Conley; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2230 Lake Michigan Drive NW. Friends may visit with family beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
