Life Story / Obituary
Frederic Bradley Kerr, age 88, passed away on September 19, 2024 in the wee hours of the morning, His wife, Kathleen and his dog Gracie were by his side. Fred was born in Belfast,Ireland on July 20, 1936. He is preceded in death by his parents Nora and Frederic. Fred emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1958 and worked in the Canadian Bank before securing a position with Chrysler Canada. While attending a church service he met his first wife Alicelyn. They soon married and raised four children together. They lived a full life with their family, church family, travel, gardening and enjoying their blessings. Alicelyn died in 2006 after a lengthy illness.
Several years later, Fred met Kathleen and they married in the Fall of 2008. Kathleen lives in Michigan so Fred became a resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan but maintained his home in Oliphant, Canada. They spent their winters in Michigan and summers enjoying time in Canada. Fred enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Europe. Together Kathy and Fred went to Ireland, Berlin, Paris and Prague. In Michigan he enjoyed Broadway theater guild and the Grand Rapids Symphony.
Fred was a kind and gentle man. He worked hard to be a good husband and father. He loved his God, his family, his dog and his life. Fred was very grateful for all of his medical caregivers who were so kind and respectful to him.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Smith-Kerr; his children Judith Kerr, Paul Kerr, Laurine (Gerrit) Debruyn, and Charles Kerr; grandchildren Heidi (Dennis) Loewen, David (Chantale) Bailey, Daniel (Chantal) Bailey, Amy Bailey, Esther Kerr, Andrew (Audrey) Kerr, Trevor Debruyn, Melissa (James), Jonathan Kerr, Stephen Kerr; stepchildren Amy (Bob) Callaway, Ted (Andrea) Smith, Robin (Tiffany Schoep) Smith; stepgrandchildren: Haley (Sterling) Callaway, Hanna (Austin) Callaway-Fletcher, Boris Smith, Vilo Smith and Vincent Smith, Madison (fiance’ Peter Kemper) Smith, Parker Smith, Otillia Smith, Miia Smith; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret (Laurie) Attwood and Maureen (Ron) Polluck; as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 1:45 PM at Sauble Christian Fellowship, 27 Southampton Pkwy, Sauble Beach, ON N0H 2G0, Canada. Burial will take place in Chatsworth, Canada.
