Mrs. Florence Lyons, age 86, of Lowell, passed away on Saturday afternoon, February 10, 2007. Mr. and Mrs. Lyons met while in the 8th grade. She moved away, but one day, Glenn and his friend were at the Tulip Festival and decided to find the Harris girls. After dating Florence and falling in love, they set their wedding date for August of 1942. Mr. Lyons was drafted when Japan invaded Pearl Harbor. Home on furlough, they got married but Mrs. Lyons had the measles so she couldn't be there to send Glenn back to the war. Mrs. Lyons has been a member of Bostwick Lake Congregational Church, UCC since 1950. Throughout the years she has been involved in the life of Bostwick Lake Congregational Church in numerous ways. Mrs. Lyons has served on the church board and assisted in the nursery but has also helped with others in less conspicuous ways. A prayer warrior, Mrs. Lyons has worked on funeral luncheons, helped to keep the church clean, arrived early to unlock the church, and set up tables and chairs for special events. She was not one to look for credit for what she has done but simply in her own quiet way with her husband of 65 years, Glenn, went about serving the Lord and her church. She is survived by husband, Glenn; their children, Glennda and Gerald Parker, John Lyons and his special friend, Paula, Ronald and Diane Lyons; their grandchildren, Denise and Sgt. John Jensen, Shaun Parker and his fiancée, Dawn Metternick, and Gerald Parker, Jr., Kathleen and Dale Wilson, Kevin Lyons, Brad and Lisa Lyons, and Brent and Carlie Lyons; four great-grandchildren; in-laws, Mrs. Marjorie Harris, Mrs. Ruth Hunt, Mrs. Doris Geldersma, and Lloyd and Dorothy Lyons; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy, brother, James Harris, Sr, and sister, Ila Drew. The service for Mrs. Lyons will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Bostwick Lake Congregational Church, UCC with The Rev. Dr. Brian Byrne officiating. Interment in Blythefield Memory Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Bostwick Lake Congregational Church, UCC. Friends may meet with Mrs. Lyons' family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford www.pedersonfuneralhome.com
