Evelyn Lewis

After a rich and lively 90 years, Evelyn Taylor Lewis passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2023.

Evelyn was born on September 12, 1933 in Escanaba, MI and graduated from Catholic Central in 1951. She enjoyed traveling all over America before moving back to Michigan in 1961, where she gave birth to her first daughter, Renee. Not long after, she married John Lewis, with whom she had two more daughters, Michelle and Lisa.

Evelyn lived her life full of love, joy and spunk. Her favorite pastimes included spending time at her cabin “up north” (northern, Michigan), garage sale-ing, campfires, bowling and polka dancing. She was a friend to all.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ed & Arlene Taylor; sisters, Mary Alice and Gloria, husband John, grandson Daniel and her special friend, Tony. She leaves behind her three daughters: Renee (Peter) Hoffman, Michelle (Chris) VanDyke, and Lisa (Jim) Lewis; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; Aunt, Theresa, sister, Bernice, and step-siblings, Frank, Lelia and Lucille. Her legacy will live on in all of us who loved her. Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s memory to Santa Claus Girls - Kent County. Friends may meet with Evelyn’s family on Friday, November 17, from 5 - 8 pm at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, Van Strien Creston Chapel located at 1833 Plainfield Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Evelyn’s funeral will be held Saturday, November 18, at 12 noon at the funeral home. Friends may visit with Evelyn’s family an hour prior to this service.
