Dr. W. Werner Prange, of Green Bay, WI, 79, passed away Sunday evening, December 3, 2006 at St. Vincent Hospital, after a short, unexpected illness. He was born May 3, 1927 in Fusshollen, Germany to the late Johannes and Hildegard (Steinke) Prange. On June 30, 1951, he married Mary Louise Benham in Grand Rapids, MI. Together they had five children, Anne Prange Nelson and her children, Jessica and Kelly, Barbara (Frank) Sharp and their children, Adam and Amanda, Michael (Leslie) Prange and their children, Ashley Heather and Max, Walter (Kathy) Prange and Robert (Kimberly) Prange and their children, Alex and Zach. Mary preceded him in death on January 4, 1988. On April 20, 1991, Werner married Edelgard Monfils. Together they spent many happy years traveling back to their birth country of Germany, throughout Europe and spending summers in Holland, MI at the family cottage. As one of the first Fulbright Scholars after WWII, Werner transitioned easily into a world traveler, gardener and a talented Jack-of-all-Trades. In addition to his children, grandchildren and Edelgard, he is also survived by Edelgard's four children and her grandchildren. Werner had a very long and rewarding academic career in both teaching and university administration. His career spanned from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI to the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. He was with the UW-GB system since its inception until his retirement in 1997. He touched many lives and many lives touched him. Memorials may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation in Dr. Prange's name.
