Life Story / Obituary
Justin Singer, MD, passed away tragically but peacefully on October 27, 2024. He was a beloved father, partner, son, brother and friend. Justin was a skilled neurovascular surgeon who dedicated his life to helping others. He was passionate about medicine, people and family, leaving behind a larger-than-life legacy that was uniquely his.
Justin was a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine and completed his residency at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Ohio. He was a board-certified neurosurgeon and spent the last 8 years caring for the community at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He was known not only for his surgical ability, but also for his empathy and compassion for his patients, most of whom knew him as “Dr. Justin” due to his unique down-to-earth nature. He was dedicated to his field and practice, participating in every meeting, course and research opportunity he could. He was known to drop everything he was doing to attend to anyone in need. Through his practice and ventures he connected with thousands of colleagues who quickly became dear friends. Being a neurosurgeon wasn’t just a job for Justin, it was who he was, and he did it beautifully.
Outside of his work, Justin had a zest for life and a love of travel. He and his beloved partner, Leah, shared many happy adventures together, exploring the world and creating memories to last a lifetime. He was a devoted father to his four children, Alexxa, Jacob, Jordyn, and Brady, and he cherished the time he spent with them above all else. He was deeply committed to their growth and education, instilling in them a love of learning and a strong sense of compassion. Shortly before his passing Justin declared that he possessed more happiness than he ever dreamed of or deserved, though we all know he deserved every ounce - and many more years.
Justin had a larger than life personality and a unique way of connecting with others which made each individual feel like a best friend. He was kind, gregarious, goofy and generous - he touched the lives of so many. His time with us was far too short, but the good he accomplished in that time was immeasurable and inspiring. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and patients. He is survived by the love of his life, Leah; his children, Alexxa, Jacob, Jordyn, and Brady; his parents, Michelle and Gregory Singer; and his brother, David Singer.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Emanuel in Grand Rapids on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 2 PM, followed by internment at Oakhill Cemetery North (603 Hall St. SE). The family invites you to return to the Temple 4-6:30PM for a meal of consolation and remembrance and time to spend with the family. Members of all faiths are welcome. A further celebration of his life will be held in the coming weeks with details to be shared on heritagelifestory.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Justin's memory to the Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation: https://nref.org/justin-singer-memorial-fund/
May his memory be a blessing to all that he touched and loved.
