Life Story / Obituary
Dorothy Mae Gaastra, age 96, went to be with her Lord on December 19, 2024. Dorothy was born May 30, 1928 in Grand Rapids, to the late Archie and Dorothy (VandenBerg) Heslinga. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Gaastra; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Joseph Davidoski; and step-father, Andrew Lane. Dorothy will be fondly remembered for her strong faith and love for God’s Word. She is survived by her son, Greg (Stephenie) Gaastra; daughter, Betsy (Randy) Groendyk; grandchildren, Tyler (Marylynn) Gaastra, Tricia (Brett) VanderHaar, Logan (Elizabeth) Gaastra, Lily Gaastra, David (Anaite) Groendyk, Sara (Jordan) Bakker, Kristin (Abdullah) Alyousif; great grandchildren, Elliott, Joaquin, Sofia, Mila, Ada, Genevieve; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at NOON at Seventh Reformed Church, 950 West Leonard St NW. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11 AM. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be in Washington Park Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Seventh Reformed Church.
