Life Story / Obituary

With great sadness, we inform you of the passing of David Samrick. He leaves behind his beloved wife Susan of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Grand Rapids, MI. His children, daughter Elizabeth Ruderman, and son Andrew Samrick (Liz). Grandchildren Jack, Hannah, Eden, Julian and Amelie. Sisters Helen Bushman (Bob) and Debby Schaefer (Roger). Nieces Robyn Shopmaker, Zoey Shopmaker, Annie Shopmaker, and Pam Heglund (Jake). Great nieces Hannah and Violet and great nephew Finnegan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Edith Samrick. David was a visionary leader with a passion for investing in people and the community. He began working for Mill Steel Company, a steel service center founded by his parents, at age 19 and through 55 years of leadership alongside his fellow partners, David cultivated an award-winning culture that propels company growth. His devotion to the company's associates and business partners and customers earned him the honor of Metal Center News Service Center Executive of the Year in 2014. A recognition he was quick to dedicate to the team surrounding him, in true David fashion. Aside from work, David loved spending time with family and contributing to the community. Giving was at the core of who David was. Through a quarter century partnership with D.A. Blodget-St. John's, David raised millions in support for its mission. His faith and love for the Jewish community were evident in his support of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He sat on the honorary board of Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach and the Samricks were recently honored by Hillel 954 for their generosity and activism. His passion for life, his family, and the community were evident in everything he did. A funeral will be held for David on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. "May David's memory be for an eternal blessing…"
