David R. Bullock

Dave Bullock was a good-natured, honest, and hardworking person to know and to love. Known for his genuine personality, he treated every person he met with kindness. Dave lived a full life and held compassion for all people, especially his loving family. He will be dearly missed by his many special friends and loved ones.

His story began in 1945. WWII was nearing its final months, the UN was formed, and Harry S. Truman was appointed President. David Richard was welcomed home by Harold and Beaulah (Webb) Bullock on November 28th in Noetown, Kentucky. His birth was a sign of hope and promise to the Bullock family.

Most of his childhood years were spent in the countryside of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. When he was 10 years old, his family relocated to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where his natural charm and sense of humor made him many new friends. Dave graduated from Los Alamos High with the Class of 1963, where he met his best friend, Pierre. During these years, he was known to take his dad’s car out on dates and then get into mischief when he got stuck in the restricted area of Los Alamos. Once married, he settled in Santa Fe before moving to the greater Detroit, Michigan area. Dave and his wife, Sandy, raised three wonderful sons: Darrell, David Richard II, and Tim. Their marriage ended, and Dave married his second wife, Nancy, in the early 70s. Their marriage ended about ten years later. Despite his marriages not lasting, his love for his children never wavered. He remained active in their lives and attended their many special events and activities, including Scouts and camping trips.

While he was living in Detroit, he worked as a postal clerk, then as a security officer escorting registered mail. Later, he went into management for the inspection service. By 1983, he moved to Grand Rapids, where he met a co-worker, Cindy Alexander, who fell for his sweet smile and sparkling eyes. She loved the way he talked about his family and always made her feel comfortable in his presence. They dated for three years before they married on February 21, 1987. During their time living in Kentwood, his sons, Tim and Rick, came to live with them.

He and Cindy shared many common interests. They loved to be on the go and enjoyed attending country music concerts, golfing, and bowling together. There wasn’t a season that didn’t have activities on the calendar to keep them connected to their community and the people they loved. For many years, they gathered almost every Tuesday to have dinner with Cindy’s sister, Phyllis, and brother-in-law, Dick, and her brother, Ray, and his girlfriend, Nancy. They would laugh and talk for hours and also plan their many vacations together. Traveling was important to them, and they went on several cruises. They especially enjoyed their trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas. Sam, Marty and Bob were Dave’s best buddies from work and they enjoyed golfing together on most Saturday’s and on outings. Sam and Ruth along with Marty and Jan went on Cruises and to Las Vegas with them many times. When they weren’t playing golf, bowling, or working in the yard, Cindy and Dave loved to prepare meals together. He was a good cook and had perfected his cornbread recipe and Enchilada pie over the years. His favorite dishes were always foods from Mexico and New Mexico, as well as Swiss steak and gravy, or anything on the grill. Dave enjoyed surrounding himself with family and friends, and they enjoyed hosting get-togethers over the years.

Dave generously shared his time and resources with others. He learned how to fix nearly anything over the years and wasn’t afraid to watch a video on YouTube or Google how to repair an appliance or build his own shed. Over the years, his trips to Harbor Freight, as well as some tools he inherited from his father, had provided him with a vast collection of tools and gadgets that he meticulously organized and labeled in his shed. Whenever he found a new tool, he would buy one for himself and one for the boys! When his father took sick, Dave traveled down to Tennessee to stay with him for weeks at a time. This later led to him deciding to retire to support his dad during his illness. When Cindy’s sister needed hospice care in Grand Rapids, he suggested she come and live with them. Dave always treated others the way he would want to be treated and opened up his heart and home whenever someone was in need.

When it came to special pastimes, Dave enjoyed reading, music, and animals. He enjoyed reading about the towns he lived in and their connection to the Atomic Energy Commission, where his father worked. He also enjoyed listening to the 70s and 80s country music he loved. Dave’s favorite animals were dogs and horses. He had three beloved dogs as pets: Prince, Sweetie, and Honey.

When Cindy retired in 2009, they moved to Bean Station, Tennessee, to be closer to family. But after losing his son, brother, and friends over the years, they decided to move on and join her sister, who lived in Arizona. They arrived in Sun City West on May 7, 2026. The next day, Dave woke up to get ready to unload the moving truck and had terrible chest pains. Being stubborn, he decided to wait until they had unloaded and returned the rental truck before going to the hospital. Unfortunately, he spent the next month in the hospital with heart surgeries and health issues until he passed away.

Described as faithful, honest, selfless, and encouraging, Dave was blessed with living a life of adventure and spending time with his family. Sadly, he is gone. May his memories live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

David Richard Bullock passed from this life and went to join his Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 13, 2026, at 80 years of age. He passed peacefully at the Banner University Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, with his wife by his side.

David was a man of strong faith and was baptized at an early age. He was a dedicated lifelong Mason and a member of the Redford Metropolitan Lodge #152. David was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Beulah; his sons, Tim and Rick; his sister, Patsy Baker; and his brother, Jim Bullock.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cindy; his son, Darrell; his stepdaughter, Rhonda Pierce; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral Service will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Alt and Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr NW. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until the start of the funeral. David will be laid to rest at Rosedale Memorial Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan
