Life Story / Obituary
David Gerard Longo, 66, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Julianne Longo; his sisters, Marianne Casarez, Kathleen Command, and Elizabeth “Betsy” Jermstad; and his brother-in-law, Jack Milanowski. He is survived by his life partner, Cheryl Pope; siblings Michael (Sue) Longo, Janet (Frank) Ventura, Maureen Milanowski, and Tom Longo; brothers-in-law George Casarez, Jim Command, and Bobby Jermstad; and many nieces and nephews. Our family acknowledges and deeply appreciates the love and caregiving shown to David by his cousin Paul Longo, and lifelong friends, Steve Fish, Tony Wisnieski, and Pete Koole.
Sadly, a little over a year ago, David was diagnosed with ALS. With tremendous love and commitment, Cheryl ensured David’s comfort and well-being, for which he was deeply grateful—especially for her care, compassion, and cooking.
Everyone who knew David will attest to his optimistic, glass-half-full attitude. David was a true food enthusiast, loved playing golf on challenging courses and was an ultimate storyteller. As soon as you saw David's signature hand rubbing, it was storytime. We never knew what was coming, but we knew it would give us a good laugh. David was a true character.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are invited to donate to the ALS Association.
