Mr. David Douglas Zenk age 83, of Grand Rapids, passed away on December 18, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edith Zenk, siblings, Patricia Vorel, Gordon Zenk, and Linda Huizing. He is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.

David was born and raised in Grand Rapids. After high school, he joined the Navy and saw the world while board the USS Essex aircraft carrier; a time that left quite a positive impact upon him. Upon his return home, David lived a quiet life; working for many years at Aquinas college until his retirement.

While he led a fairly sedate life, it was far from boring. David had a love of speed. Fast cars and faster motorcycles always attracted him.

Never one to keep to himself, David loved people. He would speak to anyone he encountered and made friends wherever he went. He also enjoyed helping those in need in whatever way he could. Even in retirement, at Villa Maria, he kept busy assisting others through voluntary maintenance and support efforts.

David always stood out for the positive way he treated others, and he will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at the Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel of Heritage Funeral Homes on Jan 2, 2026. Viewing will be from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm followed immediatey by the service. A memorial service at Villa Maria will precede the funeral at 11:00 am that day; Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park.
