David Allen Bale, age 82, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025.

Born on August 30, 1943, in Fennville, Michigan, to Walter and Shirley Bale, David was one of seven children. He lived a full and adventurous life, embracing every opportunity with curiosity, humor, and heart.

David was the proud father of seven children — Kathy, Mechelle, Dionne, Allen, Austin, Alexis, and Andrew — and cherished his 14 grandchildren, along with one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, as well as his significant other, Mary, who shared in his later years.

David worked in a variety of professions throughout his life. He drilled wells, drove a semi truck, and even worked as a private investigator, earning the nickname “Barracuda Bale.” Known for his adventurous spirit, determination, and resourcefulness, he left an enduring mark on everyone he met.

He had a deep love for the outdoors, whether fishing, tending his garden, or simply sitting quietly to enjoy the peace of nature. He was a spirited prankster, forever “King of the Mountain” in the eyes of children and brought laughter and joy to those around him.

David was preceded in death by his father, Walter Bale; his mother, Shirley Bale; brothers, Clare and Rich Bale; sisters, Diane Landers and Barbara Berg Garcia; and his niece, Jennifer (Bale) McKinney.

He is survived by his brother, Donald Bale (Marty); his sister, Donita MacDonald; all seven of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and his beloved partner, Mary.

David will be laid to rest next to his sister Barbara, in Ahavas Israel Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan at 11 AM on Thursday, October 30th with a traditional Jewish Levayah graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity in David’s name.

David’s life was one of laughter, love, and adventure. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
