Cornelius Boerkoel

Cornelius “Neil” F. Boerkoel, aged 89, of Grand Rapids passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 while in the comfort of his home and in the company of his family. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI in the summer of 1931 to the late Cornelius and Elizabeth Boerkoel. Along with his parents, Neil is preceded in death by his sisters Alida Moerdyk and Joan VanBemden. Neil is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine C. [Phillips] and their children: Neal (Francine) Boerkoel, Ruth (Ronald) Hoogmoed, Robert (Metty) Boerkoel, John (Anna) Boerkoel and Joanne (Jim) Sweetman, his grandchildren: Pierre Boerkoel, Jeremy Boerkoel, David (Leanna) Hoogmoed, Anastasia Hoogmoed, Ryan (Roberta) Hoogmoed, Rachel (Seth) VanderBoon, Allison (Nathan) Kelderman, Neal (Kim) Boerkoel, Leah (Peter VanWoerden) Boerkoel, Silvia Boerkoel, Phillip Boerkoel, Samuel (Audrey Zevenbergen) Boerkoel, Caleb Boerkoel, Kate Boerkoel, Jenna Boerkoel, Lauren Boerkoel, Janine Sweetman, Kara Sweetman, and Hanna Sweetman as well as by his sister Jane Mast and many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Neil served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was the former owner of Boerkoel & Boerkoel LTD. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1 PM at the Providence Reformed Church, (1700 Coit NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505) with Dr. Joel Beeke officiating. Interment with graveside services will follow in Fairplains Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Bilkes officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the service beginning at 11:30 AM until the time of the funeral service.
