Colleen Ligtvoet

Colleen Jo Ligtvoet passed away unexpectedly on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025, due to an accident caused by a drunk driver. Born in the winter of 1959 to Charles and Arleen Mailhot of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Colleen was known for her caring nature, her easygoing spirit, and her deep love for family.

She is survived by her loving mother, Arleen Mailhot; her daughters, Shannon (Dale) Kivinen and Heather East; and her beloved grandchildren: Olivia, Jameson, Brianna, Hadley, Ragan, and Everly. She is also survived by her sister Connie (Dennis) Dusendang, brother Chuck (Debra) Mailhot, and her cherished niece Stephanie Schaub, along with several other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Pam; and Jon Ligtvoet, grandpa to all their grandchildren. Her loyal companion, Brody, a mini goldendoodle, will miss her dearly.

Colleen was preceded in death by her father, Charles Mailhot.

She enjoyed playing pickleball and golf, and spending time at Canadian Lakes, but above all, Colleen treasured the moments spent with her grandchildren, who lovingly called her "MeMe."

A gathering to honor Colleen’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 3 to 6 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home – Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Family and friends are invited to come share memories, offer support, and celebrate the life of a wonderful woman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue Coalition, 18400 220th Ave Big Rapids, MI 49307 in gratitude for the loving care they provided for Brody.
