Charles F. DeShane passed away November 5, 2006. He was born December 10, 1918 in Waukesha, WI. By his wishes, he has been cremated. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Charles (Carol) DeShane, Sandra (James) Samsel, Robert (Shawn) DeShane, Thomas (Sally) Donaldson; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd (Lois) DeShane; sisters, Evelyn VandeKopple, Alice (D.O.) Stuck and several nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Gary Donaldson and daughter, Pamela Siebold. He attended Creston High School and the University of Alabama. Chuck played for the Detroit Lions from 1945 thru 1949. He retired from Paine Webber as a Security Broker. He was a life member of Grand River Masonic Lodge, the Consistory, 33 Mason, the Saladin Shrine, the Saladin Shrine Chanters and Jesters. He was inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame in 1976. Chuck enjoyed all sports and coaching football. He leaves many treasured friends. The family will received friends and family for a celebration of life gathering at the Reyers North Valley Chapel on Thursday from 6 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Saladin Shrine Foundations, 4200 Saladin Drive Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Please designate to be sent to Shrine Hospital.
