Catherine M. Sobie

(Sand Lake) Mrs. Catherine M. Sobie, aged 78, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2006. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parnell. Mr. and Mrs. Sobie owned Sobie's Plumbing, Heating, and Electric, and Mrs. Sobie was the "gofer" for parts for her husband. He was very devoted to her. A good cook and a hard worker, Mrs. Sobie also liked to give tender care to her flowers, especially roses and lilies. Although she faced a lot of trying times in her life, she relied on her faith in God. She is survived by her children, Loraine Driy of Walker, Wayne and Barbara Sobie of Rockford, Angela and Pete Ledesma of Grand Rapids, Irene and John Flick of Greenville, Rose and Randy Boehnlein of Belmont, Mary Waskelis of Sand Lake and Monica and Jeff Benison of Florida; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Wilma Arendsen of Rockford, Morris "Barney" and Marge Geldersma of Grattan, Russell and Lillian Geldersma of Lowell, and Corrine and William Weeks of Comstock Park, Don and Ruth VanDyke of Grandville; in-laws, Mrs. Maryann Geldersma, Mrs. Doris Geldersma, Mary and Luke Crowley, Mrs. Marge Pike, Mrs. Kathleen Sobie, Roman Sobie, and Paul and Carol Sobie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Sobie on January 15, 1990, a son, Joseph Sobie on August 31, 1997, a granddaughter, Kelly Driy on June 10, 1995, and brothers and sister Cornelius Geldersma, William Geldersma, Henry Geldersma, Jim Geldersma, Jake Geldersma, Louis Geldersma, Charlotte "Lottie" Johnson, and Pete Geldersma. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Sobie will be offered on Wednesday morning at 11:30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Parnell with The Rev. Rock J. Badgerow, presiding. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 8:30 at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may greet Mrs. Sobie's family from 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday and from 10:30 until the time of Mass on Wednesday at the church.
